PAPA ROACH's JACOBY SHADDIX Confirms He Has Herpes, Denies He Got It From His Uncle

December 30, 2014

PAPA ROACH frontman Jacoby Shaddix elaborated on the surprising, if not outright disturbing, answer he gave this past summer when he was asked if he could remember his first kiss. Speaking to Hit The Floor magazine back in August, Shaddix replied, "My first kiss was when my uncle kissed me and he gave me herpes. It was terrible. Anybody else got herpes? Yeah, you do. Don't lie to yourself. I know you got it, you watching this."

In a brand new interview with Revolver magazine, Shaddix was asked to clarify his "my uncle gave me herpes" comment. He said: "I was just fuckin' around. I was doing press in a tent full of about a hundred people, and I'd been asked about a hundred retarded questions. So I just started taking the piss out of it and it got picked up as a headline."

He continued: "I do have herpes, but I did not get it from my uncle… I've had it since I was a kid. Just cold sores, know what I'm saying? It sucks, though — I've had it my entire life."

Shaddix added: "But yeah, one thing I've learned is that you've gotta watch what you say in the press. I've been doing this for years, but you get caught slipping one time and it's, 'Oh, god. That's the headline?!'"

PAPA ROACH's eighth studio effort, "F.E.A.R.", will be released on January 27.

Shaddix recently said that the new disc was "probably the most positive record we've written" and described it as a "very guitar-heavy record… It spans across the board, from heavy to reflective, to just in your face, out of control. It's just everything that we believe is great about PAPA ROACH."

The band recorded its eighth studio album in Las Vegas. Shaddix, a recovering alcoholic and drug user, said he was nervous about camping out in Sin City. He explained, "I've been sober for a few years now, and it was just, like, 'All right, how am I gonna go to Vegas and stay focused?' And I just had to put my spiritual armor on and just go out there and do my best to be creative."

PAPA ROACH and SEETHER will team up for a co-headlining North American tour that kicks off on January 9 in Orlando, Florida.
